Description
Slate as a rock formation is almost non-existent in the vineyards of the Pflaz, but 6 hectares in the Burrweiler Schäwer vineyard have it. This fantastic Grosses Gewächs from the Meßmer Weingut comes from there!
The 2018 vintage is still very young for a Riesling of this calibre, but, with a lot of air, it's very drinkable. The smell is typical for vineyards with a lot of slate: Wet stones. Behind it, typical aromas of stone fruit build up, which slowly assert themselves and emerge into the foreground.
The first sip leaves no doubt that this is a real long-distance runner in the glass. Powerful, very balanced, classy acidity, with lots of fruit and a hidden sweetness that calls for an instant second sip. It has a long finish with great minerality. Drink it now, or just forget it in the cellar for a few years.
