Kollwentz Ried Gloria Chardonnay Doppelmagnum 2023, 3 L

One of the best, if not the very best, Chardonnays in Austria. Every year, GLORIA stands as one of the country’s flagships and is celebrated by national and international critics alike. The current 2023 vintage was honoured by renowned wine critic James Suckling as “Wine of the Year” with 99 points, making it the highest-rated wine in the country.

The south east-facing Gloria vineyard was first mentioned in a document in 1570 and is surrounded by the forests of the Leitha Mountains. It is perfectly suited to Chardonnay vines, which grow on highly calcareous brown soils. Matured in small French oak barrels, the wine is still very young, yet already remarkably approachable.

Every sip is intense and exceptionally complex. As in Burgundy, the grape variety takes a step back, allowing the terroir of this site to take centre stage. Aromas of yeast, brioche and subtle, finely integrated oak meet ripe yellow fruit. Pure minerality defines the character. Finely structured and beautifully balanced, the wine carries through to an endlessly long finish. A true cinematic experience on the palate, with enormous ageing potential of 20 years or more.
