Description
STELLATO is named after the stars, and the name could not be more fitting. This outstanding Vermentino di Sardegna has received Gambero Rosso's 3 Glasses for eleven consecutive years, an accolade it more than deserves. The evaluation for 2024 has not yet been released, but there is every reason to believe that a twelfth award will follow.
The wine matures in steel and spends several months on the fine lees, gaining a distinct silky smoothness. In the glass, it appears bright, with golden reflections. The nose immediately reveals intense aromas of apple and pear, enhanced by a pleasant citrus note.
On the palat,e it is creamy and full, richly layered and marked by a touch of minerality. The juicy acidity and barely perceptible tannins call for the next sip without hesitation. The finish is long, with a lovely return of yellow fruit that brings a genuine smile.
It is an excellent Sardinian white, capable of developing further over a few years in the bottle, during which time it will grow in complexity. Italy offers a multitude of great white wines that often stand in the shadow of the reds. This one must not be overlooked.
