Ribera del Duero can at times be quite bold, offering plenty of power, oak and intensity. This Reserva, however, shows beautifully that grandeur does not have to come with heaviness. It is a deep, mature and well-balanced red wine that clearly demonstrates why the region is so popular among lovers of full-bodied Spanish wines.

Bodegas Peñafiel has seen an impressive rise in recent years. In our view, the winery no longer needs to stand in the shadow of the region’s well-known names. On the contrary, it has become one of the most exciting producers in Ribera del Duero.

In the glass, the wine reveals a dark cherry red colour with ripe highlights. The nose offers black cherries, plums, a touch of blackberry, gentle toasted notes and a pleasant spiciness. On the palate, it is dense, juicy and powerful, while remaining smooth and elegant. The oak is present but well integrated, adding structure, depth and a refined spicy character.

This Reserva suits evenings when you are in the mood for something more substantial. It pairs particularly well with braised beef, leg of lamb, game dishes, mature cheeses or a well-prepared steak.
