Little Sister ROT – small in name, big on drinking pleasure! With this unconventional organic red wine from his ‘Handwerk’ range, Leo Sommer demonstrates that a really good red doesn’t always have to be heavy and full-bodied. Quite the opposite, in fact: here, pure drinking pleasure meets genuine winemaking craftsmanship from Leithaberg.

This exciting cuvée of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the vineyards around Donnerskirchen. The grapes are processed with particular care, fermented spontaneously and then matured on the lees in wooden barrels and concrete eggs. Unfiltered and with only minimal sulphurisation. The result is a lively natural wine with a character all of its own.

Even on the nose, juicy red berries, cherries and subtle herbal notes really whet the appetite for that first sip. On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh, fruity and spicy, with elegant tannins and a lively acidity. Despite its light-footedness, the Little Sister brings plenty of character and a surprising depth to the glass. And all without any heaviness!

Our tip: Enjoy this red wine slightly cooler, at 14–16 °C. It pairs wonderfully with pizza, pasta, grilled vegetables or a cosy snack. And it’s great on its own too.
