Günter Triebaumer from Rust am See has once again surprised us with this remarkable barrel selection. Following the acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon “shrinkage” bottling, we were fortunate to secure the finest 300-litre barrique barrel of Cabernet Franc for this limited special release.

While the Cabernet Sauvignon benefited from an accidental concentration caused by a broken fermentation tank wheel, the Cabernet Franc began with a naturally reduced yield in the vineyard. Some of the must was carefully drawn off to enhance the tannin structure and natural concentration. After 24 months in barrique barrels, followed by additional bottle ageing, the wine is only at the beginning of what promises to be a very long and exciting journey. Only 350 bottles—and a few magnums—will be produced from this barrel. Limited, unique, and exclusive: there is unlikely to be another release like this in the near future.

In the glass, this wine is deep and dark, brimming with intensity. Bursting with power, its firm, gripping tannins reveal its exceptional concentration. The nose offers delicate aromas of cassis, fresh figs, and layers of precious oak spice. On the palate, it is powerful yet juicy, with abundant blueberry fruit, a touch of chocolate, and a subtle nutty finish. Long, warm, and elegant, it flows seamlessly into an almost endless finish—this is what a great Cabernet Franc should taste like.

A unique collector’s item, it is already approachable yet guaranteed to continue developing beautifully over the next 10–15 years. Each bottle is lovingly hand-sealed with black wax. Truly, a cinematic experience in red wine.
