Hardly any other Austrian red wine has generated such enthusiasm over the last 35 years and more. Steinzeiler is a cult wine, highly sought-after and a true collector’s item. The wine takes its name from the stony, limestone-rich soils of the Leitha Mountains. Vines have been growing in these vineyards for 2,800 years!

It is a blend of 80% Blaufränkisch, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Zweigelt, and is then aged for 30 months in small French oak barrels. The result is a wine bursting with power, yet full of elegance and charm. From the outstanding 2023 vintage, the wine is still young and is slowly reaching its drinking peak. It’s best to decant it 1–2 hours beforehand, though. Then it shows itself at its very best:
Silky, delicately supple, yet full of vigour. Plenty of ripe tannins with perfectly integrated oak. Dark fruits with an inviting fruit sweetness. Perfectly balanced. The finish feels endless. A powerful red wine that is virtually perfect and will certainly continue to mature until 2043 and beyond.
