The Cuvée Excellence was one of the first wines from Costières de Nîmes—that unique border region between Languedoc and the Côtes du Rhône—to truly win us over. It left such a lasting impression that it has held a permanent place in our private cellar for over 20 years. Quite simply, it offers incredible value, often outshining wines from the region at twice the price.

How do you praise such an affordable wine as if it were a premium bottle? Easily—because what winemaker Cyril Mares achieves here genuinely stands up to far more expensive competition.

On the nose, classic Syrah aromatics immediately take centre stage: dark berries, blueberries, a touch of violet, and subtle roasted notes from oak ageing. Layers of herbaceous complexity—rosemary, thyme, and the wild garrigue so typical of the region—make the bouquet both beguiling and distinctive. On the palate, it’s bold and expressive, with dark fruit leading the way. Balanced by fresh acidity and supported by smooth, rounded tannins, this wine consistently delivers vintage after vintage. Structured, flavorful, and immensely satisfying, it's a red that punches well above its weight, especially at this price.
