Muster.Gamlitz Merlot Pannonica 2018, 0,75 L

Domaine 1196, together with Reinhard Muster in Gamlitz, Styria, works in close collaboration on its red wines with the 5-star top winery Albert Gesellmann from central Burgenland. The vines for this Merlot grow in the finest vineyards in Deutschkreutz and Raiding and are carefully tended by Team Gesellmann.

After careful hand harvesting, the wine was matured for a further 24 months in barriques, some of them new, and the excellent 2018 vintage is now revealing its full potential. Although this red wine was not originally intended for official sale, it is now becoming available to the wider public. That is certainly a welcome development.

The colour shows a deep ruby garnet. The nose is characterised by ripe black berries, oak spice and hints of juicy caramel. Dry, powerful and very full-bodied on the palate. Elegant, sweet dark berries with fine tannins glide smoothly across the tongue, supported by a well-structured body. A subtly mineral, slightly saline finish provides excellent drinkability. A well-matured, classic Merlot in the reserve category, with a long finish that leaves a lasting impression.

Ideal with dark meats, game or burgers, or simply enjoyed on its own as a comforting companion on colder days.
