Planeta Merlot Sito dell’Ulmo 2021, 0,75 l

The Sito dell’Ulmo 2021 is Planeta’s characterful Merlot from the Ulmo single vineyard on Lago Arancio. A red wine for you if you’re looking for intense fruit and spicy depth. A wine that could certainly be described as a cult wine; at the very least, it is one of Planeta’s most sought-after wines.

The grapes are grown in Menfi on gravelly, moderately calcareous soils. After being harvested by hand, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for 14 months in French Allier barriques. Malolactic fermentation takes place entirely in the barriques.

On the nose, blackcurrant, candied violets, thyme and lavender come together. On the palate, the wine is spicy and salty, intense and multi-layered – supported by lively, pleasantly integrated tannins.

Its exceptional length makes it an excellent accompaniment to white meat with a hearty sauce or delicate fish without lemon, ideally served with roasted vegetables.
