Description

The Himmelreich is probably the steepest vineyard on the Leithaberg and is quite special. It was recultivated by the Bayer-Erbhof, Sommer and Liegenfeld wineries. An ancient vineyard, it was abandoned sometime in the 1950s because the new tractors of that time were unable to manage the gradient. It was then overgrown and forgotten. It was rediscovered by accident while hiking.

With this Grüner Veltliner, you can clearly taste the location (terroir) - not so much the grape variety. Carefully harvested by hand, then macerated for 24 hours followed by spontaneous fermentation in 500-litre wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks.

Yellow, ripe fruit aromas with a subtle hint of wood on the nose. Extremely juicy and elegant on the palate. Apricots accompany a hint of white nougat. Powerful with an extract-sweet texture. Harmonious and very long-lasting with a slightly salty, nutty finish. Still young but very drinkable already. Ages well and can be stored for at least another 12 years.
