Tuscany knows its Sangiovese. Of course. But it has so much more to offer. And that’s exactly what the Castello di Bossi Toscana Rosso IGT 2021 demonstrates quite impressively.

Here, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc meet Sangiovese, bringing two distinct styles together. On the one hand, there’s that darker, spicier and somewhat more powerful character associated with the great international grape varieties. On the other hand, the Sangiovese provides precisely that freshness and distinctive acidity which immediately and unmistakably ties the wine back to Tuscany.

The result is truly exciting: spicy, juicy and complex, with good structure, yet without coming across as heavy or ponderous. It is precisely this freshness that makes all the difference and ensures that, despite its body, the wine is already a real delight to drink.

It’s definitely worth serving in a large glass. And a little time in the glass won’t do it any harm either. At the same time, the wine has enough structure and complexity to allow it to develop further over the coming years.

It’s a superb accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, pasta with ragù or mature cheeses.

For us, this is lovely proof of just how versatile and exciting Tuscany can be when you look beyond the usual stereotypes.
