Celler Carles Andreu Cava Gran Reserva Magnum 2017, 1,50 l

The Cava Gran Reserva Magnum from Celler Carles Andreu brings the depth of extended bottle ageing to this generous 1.5-litre format. Hailing from the Conca de Barberà, this finely sparkling Cava is equally at home as an accompaniment to festive aperitifs or a meal with several guests.

The cuvée consists of 67% Parellada, 29% Chardonnay, 3% Macabeu and 1% Xarel·lo. The grape varieties are vinified separately; secondary fermentation in the bottle and at least 30 months’ ageing on the lees give it structure and depth. As a Brut Nature, it is bottled without dosage.

Straw-yellow in colour with a fine perlage, the nose reveals white fruits such as apple and pear, alongside citrus, fresh pineapple, toasted bread, sponge cake and a mineral note.

The attack is creamy and elegant, underpinned by delicate acidity. The fruit and yeast notes return harmoniously on the palate; the perlage remains precisely integrated and leads into a long finish with a subtle hint of bitterness.

The magnum bottle is particularly well-suited to aperitifs and social gatherings. On the food pairing front, this Cava complements seafood, fish, Mediterranean rice dishes and light cuisine.
