Ischia has more to offer than just the sea, sun and thermal springs. This small volcanic island off the coast of Naples also has a rather exciting wine scene – and the Costa delle Parracine Biancolella Ischia DOC 2025 shows you exactly why. Biancolella is a white grape variety typical of Campania’s coastline and islands, and here it produces a wonderfully distinctive white wine.

The grapes are grown near Forio at an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level on volcanic soils. The vines are around 25 years old, and the wine is then aged for four months in stainless steel. There’s no need for oak here – because the focus is on freshness, terroir and the island’s unmistakable character.

On the nose, you’ll find white flowers and fresh citrus notes. On the palate, the Biancolella is crisp, juicy and pleasantly light-footed. Particularly exciting is its subtle salty and mineral character, which gives it excellent length and immediately brings to mind its proximity to the sea.

This is exactly the sort of wine we like to drink with grilled fish, calamari, mussels or a simple seafood pasta. But it’s also a real treat on its own on the terrace. A characterful, high-quality island white wine for anyone who fancies discovering something new beyond Pinot Grigio and the like.
