Description
The grapes for this Amarone Classico grow at almost 600 metres above sea level on limestone and marble soils and are air-dried in a drying system for 3-4 months after the harvest. As a result, they lose up to 50% of their weight and the flavours become very concentrated. In January, the grapes are processed and fermented for around 2 weeks. The wine is then allowed to mature in oak barrels, partly barrique, partly tonneaux, for about 42-50 months, before it spends at least another 6 months in the bottle.
Amarone is one of the most fascinating wines the wine world has to offer, this organic wine is no exception.
Dark ruby red in the glass, with typical scents of red berries, liquorice and raisins flowing out. A wine that you absolutely have to decant, ideally for several hours.
With 16% alcohol, it's not a quiet drink. However, it is unexpectedly elegant and complex on the palate. Amarone wants to be explored, before a cosy, warm feeling spreads across the palate, plus the very strong acidity that opposes the powerful tannin. Very exciting, yet elegant, balsamic with aromas of cooked red fruits and some coffee and roasted aromas. Don't drink too cold! The wine needs to be around 18°.
Amarone is a great accompaniment to grilled, roasted or braised meat, lamb and game dishes. Ripe hard cheeses also pair wonderfully well.
