This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva shows the true potency of this grape variety. This is where the party literally starts.

The grape variety has a lot of tannins but also a lot of acidity. If it is carefully cultivated, as is the case here, you get a wonderful combination of sheer power and delicate finesse. 40% of the wine is matured in new, large wood, while the rest is aged in used Slavonian and French oak barrels.

Best enjoyed in a glass that is not too small. The wine appears dark and almost opaque in the glass. Aromas of very ripe dark fruit with a hint of autumn leaves. Lots of pressure and spice on the palate. Dark fruit, some cocoa and coconut. The acidity is present and buffers buffering the strong tannins perfectly. Ripe tannins in the long finish. You've hit the spot if you're looking for a bold yet juicy red wine. Pairs wonderfully with red meat. But also goes well with grilled vegetables such as aubergines.
