Blazic Farm

Italy | Friuli-Venezia Giulia | Cormòns

Zegla is a small patch of hilly countryside in the Collio, but it’s a truly exciting place for white wine. Nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps, the wines produced here are characterised by freshness, crisp fruit and that special Friulian character that we love so much.

The Blazic family have been living and working in this area since 1923. Today, Franco, Cinzia and Michele run the winery with a deep appreciation for terroir, grape varieties and tradition. The vineyards are situated on the typical ‘Ponca’ soil of marl and sandstone, which lends the wines a lively character, freshness and a pleasantly crisp style.

We particularly love the fact that the wines never come across as loud or complicated. Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon, Malvasia and Pinot Bianco are juicy, straightforward and wonderfully easy to drink. For us, they are currently among the best Collio wines we have tasted recently.

The fact that Blazic is also involved in the Zegla wine project alongside Edi Keber fits perfectly into the picture: this isn’t about showmanship, but about provenance, character and truly excellent craftsmanship. That’s exactly why these wines pair so well with fish, antipasti, vegetable dishes, white meat or simply on an evening when you fancy a really good Italian white wine.
